Industry Leaders and KAIST Join Forces to Build a High-Security Semiconductor Laboratory
- 2020.10.05

Professor Youngjae Jang of KAIST and CEO of DAIM Research unveiled a new vision for manufacturing innovation with the opening of the Advanced Manufacturing Intelligence Innovation Center, bringing to life a concept he had been developing for more than two decades. He developed an AI reinforcement learning algorithm capable of coordinating more than 1,000 overhead hoist transport (OHT) vehicles without traffic congestion, solving one of the most challenging logistics problems in semiconductor manufacturing. Professor Jang believes universities should serve as hubs of open innovation, working alongside industry to accelerate technological advancement. Through an open laboratory, he aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem and establish long-term leadership in advanced manufacturing.
Building on this philosophy, DAIM Research is working with leading companies to create a collaborative innovation model. Professor Jang plans to grow the Advanced Manufacturing Intelligence Innovation Center into a globally recognized research hub that will lead the next wave of manufacturing innovation. By combining industry collaboration with talent development, he aims to help Korea strengthen its leadership in the global autonomous manufacturing market.
