Robots Get the Job Done on Their Own—Even Without People on the Factory Floor

  • 2023.07.05

Youngjae Jang, Professor at KAIST and CEO of DAIM Research, has developed a technology that simultaneously controls more than 1,000 logistics robots and successfully deployed it in semiconductor manufacturing facilities. The research was recognized internationally as a Top 5 paper in 2022 by the prestigious journal IEEE, one of the leading publications in the semiconductor operations field. Professor Jang introduced the concept of an Autonomous Manufacturing System (AMS), in which AI and digital twins enable robots to assess operational conditions on their own and optimize production.

This technology is regarded as a key solution to addressing logistics bottlenecks caused by the increasing scale and complexity of semiconductor fabs. Building on these achievements, DAIM Research has successfully commercialized its research outcomes. The company currently supplies its solutions to global semiconductor companies and is expanding into secondary battery manufacturing plants and smart factories. With its proprietary swarm robot control technology, CEO Jang aims to accelerate the advancement of Korea's manufacturing industry and strengthen the global competitiveness of Korean manufacturing software.
