KAIST Ranks Second Worldwide in AI Autonomous Manufacturing Competition

  • 2025.05.02

Professor Youngjae Jang's research team at KAIST and DAIM Research earned second place worldwide, behind Ford, in the Innovation Case Competition hosted by INFORMS, the world's largest industrial engineering society. Competing against global companies including Amazon, the team finished ahead of the MIT consortium, demonstrating Korea's technological excellence. Their award-winning project, Autonomous Manufacturing Using Digital Twins and Reinforcement Learning, was recognized for demonstrating the practical potential of AI-driven autonomous operations.

Professor Jang explained that the recognition reflects the global innovation of a proprietary technology capable of reducing design work that once took several weeks to just a few hours. DAIM Research, the deep-tech startup founded by Professor Jang, orchestrates thousands of robots in large-scale manufacturing facilities through its xMS robot orchestration platform. Building on this achievement, CEO Jang plans to further advance the company's AI-driven autonomous manufacturing technologies, which have now gained global recognition, and continue leading the intelligent transformation of advanced manufacturing.
