KAIST to Lead Research for the Physical AI Demonstration Project

  • 2025.08.29

Professor Youngjae Jang of KAIST and CEO of DAIM Research has been appointed to lead the research for the Ministry of Science and ICT's Physical AI Core Technology Proof of Concept (PoC) Project. Professor Jang is leading the research planning under the theme of Collaborative Intelligence for Physical AI and aims to establish an industrial ecosystem in Jeonbuk to help position Korea as a global hub for Physical AI. The Collaborative Intelligence for Physical AI concept proposed by Professor Jang enables multiple robots and machines to work together seamlessly, allowing manufacturing systems to adapt quickly to dynamic production environments with relatively small amounts of data.

Professor Jang also demonstrated the team's technological leadership by earning second place worldwide at the INFORMS Innovation Case Competition in April for its joint research on autonomous manufacturing with DAIM Research. KAIST believes Korea's manufacturing industry provides a strong foundation for building a Physical AI ecosystem. Professor Jang stated, "This project will be an important turning point in establishing a globally leading Physical AI innovation model for Korea's manufacturing industry." Through this initiative, DAIM Research plans to lead the industrial deployment of integrated robot operation systems.
