Govt Accelerates Physical AI for SMEs via Unmanned Factory Platform

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) convened an on-site conference at the Physical AI testbed at KAIST, announcing joint initiatives to drive the adoption of Physical AI across small and medium-sized manufacturers. By integrating MSIT’s AI plant manager initiative with MSS’s smart manufacturing innovation program, the government will support SMEs in de-risking automation through pre-deployment digital twin simulations that evaluate ROI and identify potential line bottlenecks.
Young-jae Jang, CEO of DAIM Research and Professor at KAIST leading the project, stressed that mitigating automation investment risks requires prior virtual validation and collaborative intelligence that orchestrates heterogeneous fleets of robots and machines without conflict. The Physical AI Unmanned Factory Platform integrates sensors, multi-vendor robots, manufacturing software, and digital twins to autonomously optimize factory schedules and intralogistics, already demonstrating a 7.4% output boost in real-world automotive steering-part production lines.a
