[2023 AMWC] From Automation to Autonomy—Optimizing Manufacturing Through Digital Twins
- 2023.06.20

Professor Youngjae Jang of KAIST delivered a keynote presentation at the 2023 Autonomous Production World Congress, where he presented his vision for AI-driven autonomous manufacturing and digital twin technologies beyond conventional automation. Professor Jang emphasized that the shift toward autonomous manufacturing, in which machines make decisions and optimize operations on their own, is becoming essential for the manufacturing industry. He also introduced real-world applications of the "Digital Craftsman" concept, in which AI learns and continuously tunes itself in a virtual environment. In particular, he shared how the technology has been applied to overhead hoist transport (OHT) systems in the semiconductor and secondary battery industries, reducing the risks associated with overseas factory setup while improving engineering competitiveness.
CEO Jang emphasized that securing autonomous manufacturing technologies is essential for Korea to lead global standards in advanced industries. Through DAIM Research's solutions, he aims to shift manufacturing operations from physical trial-and-error to virtual optimization and establish the company as a global leader driving autonomous manufacturing across production sites worldwide.
