KAIST Research on Swarm Robot Control Named a Top 5 Paper and Commercialized

  • 2023.07.06

Research on multi-robot control by the team led by Professor Youngjae Jang of KAIST and CEO of DAIM Research was recognized as one of the Outstanding Papers of 2022 by IEEE Transactions on Semiconductor Manufacturing (IEEE TSM). Professor Jang's team developed a technology that uses AI and digital twin technologies to provide integrated orchestration of more than 1,000 robots within a factory, demonstrating the feasibility of an Autonomous Manufacturing System. The research was designed to address the logistics bottlenecks caused by the increasing scale of semiconductor manufacturing facilities by enabling robots to determine optimal routes and task assignments autonomously.

The research is also significant because Professor Jang and the key contributors founded the KAIST research-based startup DAIM Research, successfully translating academic achievements into industrial innovation. Based on this technology, DAIM Research is supplying solutions to global semiconductor manufacturers and has recently expanded its applications to steel and secondary battery materials plants through its collaboration with POSCO DX. CEO Jang stated that, as the role of robots continues to grow in Korea's strategic industries, the company will continue advancing its technologies and establish DAIM Research as a leading example in the global autonomous manufacturing market.
