AI Is Powering Factories, Battlefields, and Cities—A New Industrial Transformation Has Begun

Professor Youngjae Jang of KAIST and CEO of DAIM Research emphasized at the 14th Good Company Conference (GCC) that the key to manufacturing AI innovation lies not in deploying individual AI solutions or robots, but in end-to-end optimization by integrating the entire factory into a single AI system. The conference brought together industry experts from organizations including LG AI Research and A-Robot to discuss AI- and robotics-driven manufacturing innovation and strategies for dark factories.

CEO Jang explained that productivity gains come not from AI technology alone, but from transforming operational systems and business processes that integrate production, logistics, and equipment. He emphasized that building autonomous factories, where AI intelligence, control systems, and robots operate as a single integrated system, is essential. He also proposed that Korea move beyond exporting individual pieces of equipment and foster a turnkey dark factory export model covering factory design, construction, and operation. He concluded by stressing that, rather than providing fragmented support by industry sector, adopting a strategy that encompasses the entire manufacturing ecosystem will be the key to global competitiveness in manufacturing AI.
