Beyond Isolated Machines: AI Orchestration for 100% Autonomous Factories
- 2026.10.13

The KAIST Manufacturing Physical AI Research Center showcased its cutting-edge Unmanned Factory Testbed, designed to orchestrate heterogeneous assets—including autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), humanoids, cobots, and production lines—under a single unified operating system. The initiative establishes a scalable validation bed aimed at exporting turnkey Physical AI Unmanned Factory Platforms to global enterprise markets.
Young-jae Jang, CEO of DAIM Technology and Professor at KAIST, stressed that isolated equipment automation cannot drive macro-level productivity gains. Instead, manufacturers must transition toward autonomous operations where end-to-end material flow and operational decisions are dynamically synchronized by AI. Addressing manufacturing labor shortages and demographic headwinds, Jang underscored the urgency of establishing open, standardized orchestration platforms that allow regional suppliers and industrial partners to scale heterogeneous robotics cost-effectively.
