"Industry 4.0 Overlooked AI": Driving Next-Gen Autonomous Manufacturing with Physical AI Platform

At MakinaRocks` `Attention 2026` conference, Young-jae Jang, CEO of DAIM Research and Professor at KAIST, unveiled a roadmap for next-generation autonomous manufacturing. He noted that Germany’s Industry 4.0 failed to fully capture recent AI breakthroughs, advocating for a model where robots execute operations on the factory floor while human operators oversee systems alongside AI. He emphasized that true factory ROI is realized only through end-to-end orchestration that harmonizes equipment and intralogistics.
The presented Physical AI Unmanned Factory Platform orchestrates collaborative robots, mobile robots, and humanoids under a single, unified operating system—built entirely on proprietary Korean technology. Incorporating Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models and reinforcement learning, the platform features intelligent governance that diagnoses anomalies via natural language voice queries and enforces automatic shutdowns during safety violations. Jang stressed that this platform represents next-generation manufacturing infrastructure driven by a 10-year development vision.
